Helicopter trial lesson

After a pre flight briefing covering how the controls work it will be straight out to the helicopter. Once airborne and used to the new sensations you will get opportunity to take the controls. Debriefing and certificate after flight.

What's included

You will be welcomed and introduced to your instructor who will look after you for the duration of your lesson. Your instructor will then show you around the Flying School and introduce you to the Robinson R44 helicopter in which you will be flying. You will be pleasantly surprised to see comfortable seats, carpets and a heater; not unlike your car.

During your pre flight briefing the instructor will describe how the helicopter flies, how the drive system works and he will explain the function of the flying controls. When you are ready, he will escort you to your helicopter, show you how to hold the controls comfortably and explain the interior layout of instruments and switches.

It may be that you are apprehensive and not sure that you want to try and fly the machine. No matter, your instructor will be quite happy to fly you around and show you the sights, so you can simply enjoy the unique experience of flying in a light helicopter.

The instructor will start the engine. It takes a few minutes for the rotor to start and the engine to warm up. You will then lift off and for the first few minutes the instructor will fly so that you can get used to the sensation of flying in a helicopter. When you are ready, you will be invited to hold the controls and then take over. There is a degree of co-ordination required in flying, so we normally invite you to try one control at a time, initially, and progress from there.

During the flight your instructor can demonstrate the unique characteristics of helicopter flying such as landing in a confined space or an autorotation. Towards the end of your flight, you will have the opportunity of trying the controls whilst hovering when you will see the co-ordination required.

the second two hour sessions will cover the basics of flying the helicopter and hovering. After the trial flight you will return to the office for a debriefing and collect your certificate and have you flights logged The full three hours will count towards your PPL License.

Voucher

Each voucher entitles one person to participate in this experience. The voucher is transferable, which means that anyone can use it. The voucher remains valid for bookings for 12 months from the date of purchase. Please contact the operator using the details printed on your voucher to arrange a date for your event.

Booking your event

We recommend that you purchase your voucher and make a booking for your event at least one month prior to your chosen date. This is particularly important for weekend events.
